Addis Ababa-ETHIOPIA, 16 July 2019.

My name is Daniel* and I’m an LGBT+ rights activist writing to you from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Being gay here is viewed as a “Western disease.” A prominent Ethiopian religious figure once said LGBT+ people “have to be dumb, stupid like animals”, and “have to be given a lesson.”

As an openly gay man living in a very religious country where it’s illegal to be gay, I often feel alone and very isolated. There’s hardly any visible LGBT+ community here.

But in a few months, I’ll have the chance of a lifetime to meet with other young LGBT+ activists from places like Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Uganda. Never in my life have I been able to meet and talk openly with other LGBT+ people.

But I need your help to get there. I don’t have any resources to get to Nairobi, where the training will take place. So together with All Out, I’m asking for your help to fund my trip.

Can you help sponsor my trip and donate today?
